Giant Leech of Australia
Giant Leech of Australia
GIANT SIZE Hirudo Verbana European bloodsucking leech (Hungarian leech). Sold as: leeches as pets. Not suitable for leech therapy. Giant pet leeches are a beautifully colored Hirudo Verbana Medicinalis type leech of the European variety. This is the original type of leech that was used in leech therapy throughout Europe. Hirudo Verbana is also believed to be the basis of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula which portrays a human - a count who truly possessed leech-like behavior and was believed to be a leech disguised in human form. Some species of this variety of Hirudo leech grow very large in size and are preferred by leech pets because they are easy to care for. Giant leech pets feed on the blood of humans and mammals and are at least 1 year old. Those leeches can go up to a year without even feeding and when they do start moving, they are slower to move, but much sturdier than their smaller Hungarian Verbana leeches or Hiurod Medicinalis medicinal leech counterparts. Giant leeches can be fed every 3-6 months on your pet or alone, such as on the arm or back of the neck. These leeches will expand to a fairly large size if fed and filled with blood. They suck blood quickly and with a lot of confidence. This pet leech is an expert bloodsucker and is not hesitant to bite the chosen area where you have placed it. You can also place it on a dog, cat, sheep, cow or horse to feed from. Since it does not require much maintenance and feeding, it is considered the perfect aquatic pet for some who have decided to try something different. The giant Hirudo Verbana are intelligent creatures and very lively and fun to keep and care for. They have a mind of their own and also a personality. If you're looking for another leech with a personality, the buffalo leech is another alternative to the tray and raise, although they are much more difficult to maintain and care for. If you buy two pet leeches of this giant size and keep them together, they will eventually mate in the spring and one may become pregnant and give birth to a leech cocoon full of leeches.
